Yes, that's correct, but usually with more amenities than only a room to sleep in. Bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, a space to eat or gather in are all typical of an apartment.
I do a few things. I help maintain the greenery in the city and keep it from overgrowing too much. I bet on people in the fighting rings. And I help out with security at one of the bars.
I'm only sharing with one other person and we each have our own room. Cheaper options are shared living spaces not too dissimilar from the safehouse, though usually with a little more privacy. Some kind of divider between the beds. In a larger apartment, I imagine people aren't trying to fit more than six into a place.
If you would like suggestions on who to bet on, I'm happy to share them.
I don't really have any familiarity with knights outside of stories. But I make sure no one under the drinking age sneaks in. Makes sure no one is causing trouble for anyone else. Stop fights before they happen, end them if they do. Make sure the people who drank too much have a safe way to get home.
I don't know if I would say it's necessarily honorable. But people should be able to enjoy things without any problems, and I don't like seeing people get hurt.
There aren't necessarily kings and queens in title where I'm from, though the functionality is similar. I suppose in terms of personal protection, there are personal bodyguards. Then there are various services and agencies.
Let's use this world as an example. It's close enough in some ways. The New Amsterdam Police are the ones responsible for protecting the city. Within the police, you have different levels of rank reporting up to a higher authority. At the top is a police chief who reports to the mayor of the city.
On a global level, the UNA is the military force in charge of protecting everything on a global level. In my world, each country has its own army. Here, it's all unified as one.
No offense taken at all. I can try to be more concise if it would help. But I know what it's like trying to learn a lot all at once so I'm happy to help.
I suppose the changes are fairly significant. How are you handling the technology so far?
Oh, do not shorten your words on my behalf. They are precious, especially so long as you can use them freely. 'tis hardly your fault my world is so... hopelessly different from this place.
The technology is a fair example for it –– all of it is entirely pleasant. That is, I know humanity and I know it well, I have no doubt as its positive uses grew, so did its negative ones. But the ease of everyday life is incomparable to what I once knew. And it affects life in all its aspects, from the making of food to the comforts of one's shelter.
Have you known life without electricity? Running water?
Do I live in a world where electricity and running water are broadly accessible to those with means? Yes.
Have I personally lived in situations where electricity and running water was not readily accessible to me? Yes. I spent some time of my life living on the streets and survived off whatever I could obtain or what kindness people showed me.
[It's a twisting of a truth, one she's given in partial to someone else. But even though life in the compound meant she was sheltered, what little she was given depended on what her trainers and handlers allowed. All things come with a price.
Homelessness came with its own challenges and prices, but she had her own sliver of freedom. That made all the difference.]

⟪ it sounds not dissimilar from a smaller temple. ⟫
I have placed wagers in the fighting ring myself. Trickier without visions, but still rewarding.
Security though - like a knight?

More of a guard than a knight, then. And still more honourable than most knights and guards I have known in my life.

Who serves the king or queen then, in your world, if there are no knights?

Your world is at war, then, I take it?

I'm not sure if there are any monarchies in this world. The title may be more symbolic or one of prestige than true power.
Yes. Rather, there is always a state of conflict occurring.

Your world is similar to this place, yes?

Yes. A few centuries behind, but there are some similarities.

And your patience.
Most all my confusion stems from how... different my own world is.
